Originally, the plan was simple: we wanted to produce a short, punchy behind-the-scenes video for our action movie. But as we dove deeper into preparation, it became crystal clear to us: the story behind the making of this film is so extraordinary, moving, and full of contrasts that it deserves its own spot on the big screen.
That’s why today we are officially announcing: alongside our action short film, we are creating a complete, standalone documentary about the grueling journey of bringing an impossible, solo film project to life.
A Boy's Dream - And a Decades-Long Struggle
Ever since he was a little boy, director and lead actor Taro Donatella had a clear vision: to one day shoot an uncompromising, epic action movie - inspired by timeless classics like Die Hard starring Bruce Willis and the monumental works of Michael Bay or Quentin Tarantino. But reality presents an indie filmmaker without a wealthy family, connections, sponsors, or money with the absolute toughest obstacles.
It literally took decades to realize this dream. The road was pure hell, marked by massive setbacks. Time and again, plans had to be put on ice because real life got in the way. Tragically, over this long period, key people passed away, others got swallowed up by the daily grind, or simply lost interest.
In the end, Taro Donatella was left completely on his own. No family, no friends, no investors, no partners. One man against the world. The famous fight against windmills is a joke compared to what went down in that lonely, remote corner of the world in the Southwest Palatinate.
From Internet Troll Victim to Hollywood Caliber
For major production companies with multi-million dollar budgets, a film shoot is just daily routine. For a single person trying to pull one of the coolest action shorts of all time out of thin air, it’s a seemingly insurmountable mountain.
The Skeptics: In the beginning, absolutely nobody believed in the project. Sponsors turned it down, and people online ruthlessly trolled Taro for his "funny idea" of shooting a blockbuster short movie with zero budget.
The One-Man Show: Despite the ridicule, he went all-in. From the first draft to the final shooting schedule - captured in the document FINAL DOUBLE PAYDAY -everything was driven by a single person. He took care of location scouting, organized props, insurance, cast & crew, and coordinated hotels and catering.
The Logistical Masterpiece: He pulled off the impossible: building a massive action set - complete with mercenaries, countless weapons, and real explosions under the direction of professional pyrotechnicians.
The Birth of a Film Family
Taro poured his blood, sweat, and tears into showing the world what a single individual can achieve through pure willpower and a hard fight. And this relentless dedication changed everything.
What started as a lonely one-man show has now grown into a seriously large, professional team. We’ve gathered experts and actual award-winners in our crew, all sharing the same vision. There’s still no multi-million dollar corporation backing us - this incredibly complex project is being pulled off with almost no budget, thanks to strong co-op partners and, to a large extent, straight out of Taro Donatella’s own pocket.
With this documentary, we’re taking you up close and personal on Taro Donatella’s journey. You’ll see how strangers became a tight-knit film family, creating something with pure passion that others never believed in.
The main film will remain strictly under wraps until the festivals - but this documentary will show you how much heart and soul, pain, and hard work went into every single second. Stay tuned!
